Jason Wu’s sheer way to success …

Hardly a decade in the making, this Canadian rising star once again proved to us why he deserved to be the recipient of the multiple awards in his name with his Spring/Summer ’17 Ready to Wear collection. The runway started with shades of blue, navy paired against metallic. If the pleated skirt from the first look did not win you over, the metallic piping that chicly enhanced the silhouette of the second look would be sure to do so. The collection also brought forth the fluorescent yellow introduced in his Fall 2016 collection. This alongside flower appliqués in electric colors, ditsy prints, shoulder cut outs and keyhole details, and a dangerous amount of sheer. Yet despite a collection almost entirely attending to the sheer look, the beautiful execution of each garment spoke of bold elegance. Asymmetric lines and drape details carrying these controversial fabrics gracefully swept the catwalk. Wu was wise to include opaque jackets as a modest alternative for his loyal clientele. The winning detail of the collection was unquestionably the highlighter piping that somehow managed to distract the eyes from the nude look. It was close one, but Jason Wu triumphed once more.
