From the first appointed female designer for Dior:
Maria Grazia Chiuri tapped into her womanly intuition for the Dior SS ’17 collection. The first ever collection by the new creative director started with looks inspired by fencing uniforms and suits of armour. We’re going into war, she evidently declared. But it didn’t stop there. “We should all be feminists” read one of the t-shirts paired with a deep blue organza skirt and detailed with the star chart. That is when it all started to make sense. Simple silhouettes swept the runway with intricate embroidery and beadwork influenced by the Major Arcana suit of a Tarot deck. Le pendu- The Hanged Man- suspended in the air amidst a change, and very representative of the fashion house’s current position as it settles in with the new creative director. L’amoureux, La Roue de Fortune, L’etoile, Le monde, Le Diable, La Lune… We’re at war, against the patriarchy society we live in, and that has been a common theme this season. The insistent use of soft tulle and tulle-tiered skirts was a signature of the ex-Valentino designer, but this is merely a dawn for a DIO(R)EVOLUTION, as read on another one of the t-shirts in the collection.
