Altaroma January 2017 Highlights
Altaroma stands for Made in Italy, stands for safety and promotion of artisanal work and support of young talents. Hosted by the Italian capital, melting pot where art, fashion and culture meet, the platform, twice a year (January–July) is the occasion for showing original creations between tradition and innovation.
Greta Boldini, brand founded in 2011 by Alexander Flagella and Michael Musco, always proposes timeless collections that mix rigour and elegance with a nostalgic nature. The name was formed by juxtaposing the names of two legendary artists, Greta Garbo and Giovanni Boldini. Instead “Like moths” is the name of the Fall 2017 collection designed for Altaroma and like moths the models walked fiercely the catwalk, assertive and resolute. On the runway we saw pleated and ankle length skirts, 40’s-inspired silhouettes, masculine coats and a diverse colour palette, from grey and blu-green to soft pink.
Marianna Cimini, for her FW ‘17 collection, grabbed inspiration from an essential element within the Japanese culture and worship for nature: the bamboo. It has a delicate appearance but at the same time it is robust and strong. “The Bamboo theory”, the name of the collection, is a meditation on these two side of which, according to the designer, every woman should be aware of. Bamboo trees are stamped on the garments and the colours surprise the eyes when the dark tones become bright and vital (or the other way around). Velvet dresses and nylon long coats are essential.
Eclecticism and street-wear-ish inspirations for a “Hot couture” Fall 2017 collection by Nicola Brognano. The young designer, class 1990 and founder of his brand Brognano, shaped a glittered femininity: 80’s vibes, neon colours and geometric lines. Diverse silhouettes, from wide pants to skinnier ones.
Melampo Fall 2017 collection, designed by Lulù and Anna Poletti, is a surrealistic journey that links the external world to the inner one. The garments are deconstructed, or re-constructed. The shirts with wide silhouette of the shoulders and Victorian collars are a mix of influences. Delavè velvet and beautiful broderie anglaise.
“Imperfections” is the name of the FW ’17 collection designed by Alessandra Cappiello, founder of the brand Morfosis. Imprefect means incomplete and it subtends an opening towards the future and a research for a new status quo. The brand shaped a many-sided woman, delicate and androgynous. Shades of black, yellow, pink in the colour palette.
