The Indonesian rising star, Anniesa Hasibuan delighted us with a new regime in the world of fashion- She brought the headscarf to the forefront of high fashion at #NYFW this week. And everyone’s talking about it. The collection, inspired by her Indonesian heritage, is rooted in Islamic fashion. Luxurious fabrics in modest silhouettes is what we saw, and we loved it. Here’s why- Each model wore a hijab, the name for headscarves worn by Muslim women to cover their hair and chest in the presence of elders and men that aren’t family. With recent events having created controversy around the topic of religious wear and the freedom of choice in clothing, Hasibuan used fashion as a platform to generate awareness and “normalize” the hijab.

Brava girl!
