Monarchy meets city chic in Lluillier’s latest

The designer best known for her bridal collections showed an impeccable line of evening wear at New York fashion week yesterday. Delicate and whimsical gowns delighted us with their debut on the SS ’17 runway. Not one look was a disappointment, they all cohesively won us over. At least I can speak for myself. Soft, feminine silhouettes in fabrics like chiffon and (what looked like) charmeuse added a much desired movement. Because a season whose zeitgeist is embedded in liberation deserves movement. What else? Feather and feather-like embellishments, rhinestones, metallic hearts detailing and elegant drapes, all used in harmony with sheer fabrics and pastel tones conceived a light hearted romantic feel. Some of the dresses instantly reminded me of Elie Saab. Fit for a princess. And there was a bit of a 20s freedom essence, reinvented into shapely styles and pulled together at the waist by equally dainty belts. Subtle hues of pink and purple were the signature colours of Lhuillier’s exquisite SS ’17 collection.

All I have to say is- our favourite Manhattan royalty, Blair Waldorf, would approve.
