New York Fashion Week retraces past beauty criterions
From above-the-knee coats to flared minidresses to boat necklines and a minimalist tailoring embellished with bows, the Sixties are back in vogue on the Argentinian born designer Victor de Souza‘s catwalk for the FW23 season.
Conceived by make-up artists Ewa Perry and Takumi Inoue, the make up could not but reflect the same bon ton and nonconformist character of that eccentric-fashioned decade.
The red lipstick – key player in the previous post-war 50’s era – is put back in the drawer to focus instead on the eyes, that are conferred a doll-ish effect: mascara is used to draw fake lower eyelashes; intense and super colourful eyeshadows enhance the look, often creating clashing cromatic contrasts with the clothing colours, while tiny pearls preciously frame the eyes.
Backcombed to add volume and smoothness, the hair is tied up in high ponytails through ton sur ton bows, matching the colours and the fabrics of the outfits. Among the accessories, huge cat-eye glasses are the real eye-catchers of the show, conferring a carefree and glam attitude.
