From Paris Haute Couture Week, the duo’s Fall 2018 lineup
Viktor&Rolf‘s latest fashion show in Paris was a celebration of the brand’s 25 years of existence.
Constructed with the conceptual highlights of its history, everything from the Fall 2018 Haute Couture collection turned white and pristine – embellished with Swarovski crystals. The reason? It was for the need to confer uniformity to the lineup; moreover, it “was also to make it lighthearted”, Rolf Snoeren said during a preview. The white gives the garments a new aspect and a sense of timelessness that fully expresses the identity of the creative duo, focusing the attention on the concepts that stand behind their creations.
Looking through the archives, we can retrace the past masterpieces that made the success of the brand: from the first ballgown made in decaying wool (that won the 1993 Hyères festival) to the tulle white gown with holes carved out of the skirt (from the RTW Spring 2010 collection) and the tuxedo with a big multilayered ruff collar, from the Fall 1998 Couture collection, that is one of the most appreciated looks by the designers.
