Fashion is more and more democratic: social media draws more involvement from a broader audience, and more inexpensive options are offered, making fashion an accessible field to everyone.
As the “trend” is losing importance, the idea of “personal style” is gaining ground, resulting into what Ted Polhemus defined a “supermarket of styles”: a divorce from an orthodox acceptance of an homogeneous style, in order to remix several elements from different brands and backgrounds.
Mattia Arioli shows us that street photography can cast an interesting glance on what happens behind the fashion catwalks: variety dictates the current “trend”, as it is impossible to find a fil rouge among the styles showcased on catwalks and streets.
