Marni FW18

Cultural contamination takes center stage in the new collection

A tribe made of different ethnic elements is protagonist in Marni’s FW18 collection. Inspiration comes from the contamination of several worldwide cultures, as a trip that Francesco Risso imagines taking around the world.

Oversized silhouettes prevail in the FW18 collection: floor lengthed-overcoats and wide-leg trousers go alongside quilted jackets and nylon overalls.

It’s not an unusual attitude for the Italian brand to experiment unpredictable contrasts: Chinese brocades on silky shirts are combined with African-inspired stripes and English tweeds; fur hats are mixed with Masai jewels and sandals. In addition, patchwork is a recurring feature in puffer nylon jackets and shearling leather hooded coats.

The well-known brand’s predilection for art emerges from the collaboration with Frank Navin: the artist’s animals and objects illustrations are printed on the perfect-tailored suits, giving them an eccentric and unique identity.
