BABEL MEN’S, the Spring 2019 collection

“Structure vs confusion, constructivism vs chaos – a reminder of what could be.”, we read on the show notes of the Rick Owens‘s latest collection.

The Lord of the Darkness is a man of extremes, and for Spring 2019 he proved that again: what he conceived for his namesake label maintains its signature theatrical and expressive aesthetic, rich in abstract concepts, deconstructions and sharp-shouldered tailoring.

The Spring 2019 collection –called BABEL MEN’S, in reference to The Tower of Babel- includes drop-crotches, snaking long sleeves and chains attached to the waist. Therefore, Owens doesn’t lack in experimenting original cuts, giving his own interpretation of the American skate shorts, denim jackets and Western shirts. Some disturbing elements are added: a face mask with long black tendrils covers the face and reaches below the knees.
Hooded nylon ponchos are constructed as geometric structures that project out of the torso: these garments are provided with all the necessary aluminium poles to create veritable wearable tents.
