What’s behind a color?

Over the centuries the black color has been used from different cultures with different meanings. The collections presented during the last weeks witnessed an interest in communicating these diverse backgrounds.

Costantly inspired by the Italian culture, Dolce & Gabbana‘s collections are full of references from Sicilian and Southern Italy in terms of silhouettes, attitude and color palette. Black is a color that became symbol of elegance while it first used to mean austerity.

Black is the ultime color of the Spanish royalty. Historically, the black color became big in fashion because of the style and the rigour of famous names, such as Eleanor of Toledo, in opposition to the ostentation of the other European royal courts.

Demna Gvasalia wanted to celebrate Cristobal Balenciaga and the Spanish culture with some haute-couture dresses, presenting an outstanding black dress.

Yohji Yamamoto focused on new silhouettes and presented a total black Fall 17 collection. While deconstructing the garments, creating original shapes, the designer deconstructed the color, giving a dynamic energy to the dark tones.
