Sailing the Nile: a deep look at the accessories from Elie Saab Spring 2017 Haute Couture

The beginning of the XX century was, all over the (Western, at least) world, a moment of artistic, cultural and industrial development. In fashion also, the couturiers would design sumptuous creations, often inspired by esotic cultures. The Egypt in that time was witnessing the same growth and the elegance, even if with different features, would have been spotted in everyone’s style. Elie Saab wanted to portray this moment and a certain luxurious aesthetic with his Spring 2017 Haute Couture collection. The pieces are deeply inspired by the Egyptian culture, the iconography and the symbols that are associated with it. The Nile river in particular had a vital role for the life of the country and it has been represented, with its colours, in the amazing embroideries of the gowns.
